Uploaded Photo Changes to the Wrong Image (Usually the Prior Upload)

Purpose

To explain why an uploaded inventory photo may change to the previously uploaded image and how to resolve and prevent this issue when using the StageStock web version.

Symptom

When uploading photos to items in StageStock, users may observe:

  • The image they upload is replaced with the incorrect photo,

  • Most commonly, the image changes to the photo uploaded for the prior item,

  • The preview may appear correct initially, but the saved item displays the wrong image.

This issue occurs in the browser version, not the mobile app.

Cause

This behavior is caused by multiple item edit sessions running at the same time in the same web browser.

When more than one item is open in multiple tabs or windows—or when a new item is started before the previous editing session is fully closed—the browser may temporarily store image data in its form cache. As a result, the system may attach:

  • The previous item’s image to the current item

  • A cached file instead of the new upload

  • An image from another open editing tab

This is triggered by browser caching, not by the StageStock image storage system itself.

How to Fix the Issue

Follow these steps to correct the wrong image and prevent it from repeating:

1. Close all extra StageStock tabs or edit windows

Only keep one item edit session open at a time.

2. Refresh the page before re-uploading the correct image

A fresh page clears cached form data that may cause the wrong image to appear.

3. Clear the browser cache if the wrong image continues to load

Persistent cached data can override new uploads.

4. Re-upload the photo to the item

After clearing cache and closing other tabs, the correct file will save properly.

Prevention Tips

To avoid this behavior in future image uploads:

  • Edit or create only one item per browser tab/window at a time

  • Do not open multiple item pages during photo entry sessions

  • Refresh the page before starting the next item

  • Avoid using the browser “Back” button during image uploads

  • Clear cache periodically when uploading many photos in succession

These steps ensure the browser does not mix temporary data between items and will prevent most incorrect-image behaviors.
