Why the “Add Item” Button Does Not Appear in StageStock

Purpose

To explain why the Add Item button may be missing in the StageStock mobile app or web browser, and how users can verify whether this is caused by permissions, category setup, or an app-related issue.


When the Add Item Button Will Not Appear

The Add Item button is hidden whenever any of the following are true:

1. No Categories Have Been Created Yet

StageStock requires at least one active Category before new items can be added.
If no categories exist, no user—including Administrators—will see the Add button.


2. Your Permission Role Does Not Allow Adding Items

To add items, a user must have either:

  • A Manager-level or above permission role, OR

  • A custom permission role with the “Add Item” permission enabled for at least one Category

If neither applies, the user will not see the Add button anywhere in StageStock.


3. The User Lacks Category-Level Access

Even if a role includes Add Item permissions:

  • The user must also have access to at least one Category they are allowed to add items to.

  • If they have Add Item permission but no category access, the Add button will remain hidden.

Category access and Add permissions work together.


How to Check Whether This Is a Permission or Category Issue

  1. Log into your StageStock site in a web browser:
    https://YOUR-SITE-NAME.stagestock.com

  2. Navigate to Items.

  3. Check whether the Add Item button appears.

What This Means

If you do NOT see the Add button on the website:

This almost always indicates a:

  • Permission role issue

  • Category access issue

  • Missing Categories

If you DO see the Add button on the website but not in the app:

Your permissions are correct, and this may be an app-specific issue.

Roles That Can Add Items

Users will only see the Add button if they are assigned one of the following:

  • Manager

  • Administrator

  • Custom Role with Add Item enabled

Note: Contributors cannot add items unless a custom role is created and Add Item permission is explicitly granted.


Important Notes

  • Item creation permission is tied to both the user’s role and the Category permissions.

  • A role with Add Item permission is not enough—the user must have access to at least one Category that allows item creation.

  • Administrators can configure these settings under:
    Site Administration → Manage Permission Roles
    Site Administration → Category Management
