Scan a QR code or barcode to find an item

đź”´ StageStock

Scan an item's QR code or barcode and StageStock opens that item's page. You can scan with a phone's camera, the StageStock app, or a USB scanner at a computer.

Each category uses one kind of code, set by its Barcode Type: QR Code or 1D Barcode (Code 39). A QR code carries the web address of the item's page; a Code 39 barcode carries the item's ID. Whichever you scan, you need to be signed in, and you see the item only if your role in its category includes View Items.

Scan with your phone's camera

This works with QR codes. Open your phone's camera app, point it at the code, and tap the link that appears. The item's page opens in your browser.

Scan with the StageStock app (iPhone and Android)

  1. On the Inventory screen, tap Scan at the bottom.
  2. Point your camera at the item's QR code or barcode. The item's page opens on its own.

If the app says "There seems to be no valid inventory id. Please try a different qr code." (or "barcode"), the code isn't one StageStock can match to an item.

Scan with a USB scanner at a computer

A USB scanner types what it reads, like a keyboard. StageStock looks up that text as an item ID, so use it with Code 39 barcodes or with your own barcodes that match your item IDs. A QR code carries a web address, not an ID, so it won't match here.

  1. Go to Inventory > Search and Check Out and click Scan, next to Search.
  2. When the Scan Bar Code window opens, scan the barcode.

A moment later, the item's page opens. If the window shows "Item … not found. Please, scan the code again", no item has that ID. Scan again, or check that the item's ID matches its barcode.
